GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH

Short - and long chained polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA’s), such as a number of the omega fatty acids found in fish, are so called essential fatty acids, which must be ingested, because the human body can not produce them, and they are needed for human health.

The PUFA's are important structural components of the cell membranes and contribute to various membrane functions. Currently, national and international bodies such as the WHO (World Health Organization) and EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) base their recommendations for dietary intake of the healthy fatty acids found fish, on the maintainance of a healthy cardiovascular system, good brain function and good vision (ref. Commission regulation (EC) 432/2012*) - but scientific research is continuesly on-going, linking the intake of PUFA's to a number of other functions important for human health as well.
